Job Opening – Temporary/Part Time

 

Position Summary:  The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County is looking for an enthusiastic part-time ‘playworker’ to attend periodic Museum-on-the-Go events (possible 15-20 hours/week).  This individual uses his/her love of children and interest in science and the arts to help with everything from exhibit set-up and breakdown, to encouraging public interaction with exhibits.

 

Essential Functions

  • Engage the public in interactive ‘play’ with museum exhibits
  • Monitor exhibits to ensure proper use
  • Maintain exhibit area by replenishing supplies, picking up, etc.
  • Answer questions about the Children’s Museum

  • Assist with science demonstrations and/or arts & crafts activities

  • Together with other Museum crew, transfer exhibits to and from Museum van to exhibit location for set up and breakdown (using hand-truck)

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to interact with young children and the public with enthusiasm and patience

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse groups of people

  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and follow through

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative

  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and to work as a team player

 

Education and Relevant Work Experience

  • Previous experience interacting with young children

  • Previous professional or volunteer experience interfacing with the public

  • Must provide three professional references

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds

  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time

  • Must be able to travel to events  throughout Sonoma County, and occasionally nearby counties, during the morning, day, and evening, including weekday and weekend hours

 

Compensation:  $12/hour.
