Museum-on-the-Go Playworker/Assistant
Position Summary: The Children’s Museum of Sonoma County is looking for an enthusiastic part-time ‘playworker’ to attend periodic Museum-on-the-Go events (possible 15-20 hours/week). This individual uses his/her love of children and interest in science and the arts to help with everything from exhibit set-up and breakdown, to encouraging public interaction with exhibits.
Essential Functions
- Engage the public in interactive ‘play’ with museum exhibits
- Monitor exhibits to ensure proper use
- Maintain exhibit area by replenishing supplies, picking up, etc.
- Answer questions about the Children’s Museum
- Assist with science demonstrations and/or arts & crafts activities
- Together with other Museum crew, transfer exhibits to and from Museum van to exhibit location for set up and breakdown (using hand-truck)

- Ability to interact with young children and the public with enthusiasm and patience
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse groups of people
- Demonstrated ability to take direction and follow through
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and to work as a team player
Education and Relevant Work Experience
- Previous experience interacting with young children
- Previous professional or volunteer experience interfacing with the public
- Must provide three professional references
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to travel to events throughout Sonoma County, and occasionally nearby counties, during the morning, day, and evening, including weekday and weekend hours
Compensation: $12/hour.
